A Number of private hire firms make daily/weekly/monthly hire charges and may vary in amount.
Before hiring equipment you need to make sure the item you require is not available to you from the Local Authority. If you have mobility problems you should discuss this with your doctor. He can refer you for a wheelchair assessment. The wheelchairs are provided free of charge and remain with you until you no longer require them. If you have short term mobility problems you may be able to loan a wheelchair from the "Home Loans Service". You cannot contact them direct but your Health Visitor or District Nurse can contact them for you. They can also request short term loans of small appliances e.g. bath seats, toilet seats, mattresses etc. On discharge from hospital the social worker can arrange for you to get equipment that you need when you return home.
