Return to the Fact Sheet Contents Page In The Doncaster Metropolitan Borough the RADAR (toilet) Key Scheme was first launched in 1981 due to the fact that providers of accessible toilet facilities were having to lock facilities either totally or for many hours because of vandalism or to reduce running costs. A RADAR key can be issued automatically, free of charge, from Neighbourhood, Communities and Children's Services (formerly Social Services), if the client is in receipt of the higher rate of th mobility component of Disability Living Allowance, registered disabled or registered blind. For other requests clients are assessed on an individual basis based on their access needs to toilet facilities, e.g. someone who has a colostomy who requires space to change a bag, someone who needs a carer to assist with toileting due to a physical disability or someone who has other needs e.g. dementia.
