What is Respite Care?
Respite care is any sort of help and support that enables a person to take a short break from their caring role.

Caring for someone can be a full time job and can sometimes impact on the carers health and well being.  Carers may feel that they need to take a break  and have some time off from their caring role. You can get some respite from caring in different ways:

  • Residential Respite - the person you care for goes into a residential setting for a short while and is looked after by someone else.
  • Domiciliary Care - Someone will come into the persons home to take over the carers role for a short while to give them a break.
  • As a carer you can sometimes have a break for a few hours when the person you are caring for becomes involved in other activities e.g. at a day centre.

To discuss your circumstances and ask about an assessment for yourself as a carer and the person you are caring for, contact the Adult Contact Team at DMBC on 01302 737391.
