GENERAL SITUATION Many organisations find it necessary, to protect against unwelcome intruders, or simply to regulate access to a building and to safeguard valuable equipment and confidential information, to have some kind of security system.
DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS
- Where door entry system controls are installed they should be located on the latch side of the door with the activation pad (electronic) positioned within 200mm of the door frame at a height of between 750mm and 1000mm from the finished floor level.
- Other electronic systems which may be convenient for use by disabled people include swipe cards and 'key fob' systems.
- The system should not require the use of two hands (for operating the lock and opening the door) at the same time.
- Intercom systems should have clear instructions and controls supplemented by tactile or audible guidance. The system should provide some indication that the intercom user has been acknowledged, if there is a speaker system an induction loop should be included.
- A sensor will enable the intercom operator to know that a blind or deaf person is awaiting entry.
