South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service
The statutory fire and rescue service for South Yorkshire. The service covers the areas of Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield.
Our mission is ‘Making South Yorkshire Safer and Stronger’ and our work to achieve this extends to far more than fighting fires.
Our firefighters are supported by teams of support staff who are skilled to provide a wide range of specialist services. This includes our community safety work and our responsibilities to enforce business fire safety laws. We also work with a network of volunteers to further extend the reach of our prevention work.
In emergencies call 999.
- Provides free Home Safety Checks to those eligible and provides resources such as smoke alarms after assessment by our qualified officers.
- Provides fire safety advice to groups and attends community events.
- Works with youngpeople including Prince’s Trust and Fire Cadets.
- Runs a free programme for all Year 6 school pupils in South Yorkshire at The Lifewise Centre, based in Hellaby. This provision extends to Special Educational Needs schools, Pupil Referral Units and Learning Centres.
Safe & Well Scheme
More than 50 people have died in house fires in South Yorkshire since 2011. Most could have been prevented. Many house fire victims were already known to at least one other agency. Sadly in most cases South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue were not. The best way for other organisations to support our work is to be aware of fire hazards and to sign up to become one of our Safe & Well referral partners. We also offer referral pathways for domestic abuse and young fire setters.
