MediaWise is an independent charity, set up in 1993 by 'Victims of media abuse', supported by concerned journalists, media lawyers and politicians in the UK. They operate on the principle that press freedom is a responsibility exercised by journalists on behalf of the public, and that the public have right to know when the media publish inaccurate information.
- To promote for the benefit of the public compliance with ethical standards of conduct and with the law by journalists, broadcasters and all others engaged in or responsible for the media, in the United Kingdom and elsewhere.
- To advance the education and training of the public and in particular members of charitable and non-charitable voluntary organisations in the UK and elsewhere in all forms of communication media and in particular the effective utilisation thereof.
- Offering advice, information and training on media issues and consultancy.
- Assisting with complaints about the print and broadcast media.
