Scheme for leasing cars, scooters and powered wheelchairs.
Motability is a national charity, set up to assist disabled people with their mobility needs. They direct and oversee the Motability Scheme which enables disabled people to obtain a car, powered wheelchair or scooter simply by using their government-funded mobility allowances.
Aims: To help people with mobility problems obtain more freedom.
- Helps people who qualify for the higher rate mobility component of Disability Living Allowance, the enhanced mobility rate of Personal Independence Payment or the War Pensioners Mobility Supplement to lease a car, scooter or powered wheelchair.
- Raises funds to meet the costs of specialist equipment and adapted cars for disabled people who could not afford to become mobile without extra help.
- Currently around 630,000 disabled people and their families benefit from the freedom and independence provided through worry free mobility from the Motability Scheme.
