Description:
Direct Payments are an alternative way to receive care for a child or young person with a disability who lives at home. A person with parental responsibility for a disabled child is given money to provide care that would normally be provided by the local authority.
What can Direct Payments be used for?
- Personal Care e.g. help getting ready for school
- Support to access social activities e.g. pursuing an interest
- To provide night time care e.g. to enable parents to have a break
How to get Direct Payments
A referral needs to be made to the Children's Disability and Health Team (CDHT), where a Social Worker will complete an assessment. This assessment is then presented to the Resource Panel for a decision . Once Direct Payments have been approved there is support given to set up the scheme. It is regularly monitored and reviewed by the Direct Payment Coordinator.
