Cost: Free Service for disabled people and carers.
Description:
SYCIL provides a range of disability related services in order to enable disabled people to have greater independence, personal choice and control by offering the following services:
- Independant Living Unit - A range of equipment is displayed in the unit, where an Occupational Therapist provides impartial advice about equipment and practical aspects of daily living.
- Enable - Advocacy Service offering one to one support and befriending by trained volunteers. The service supports disabled people to 'have their say' about issues that are important to their lives. Tel: 01302 892 947 (Helen Butler).
- Young Person's Service - Providing activities for young disabled people aged 14 - 25 years, giving them the opportunity to gain confidence, self esteem and social skills by meeting new friends of a similar age, with the same interests and learn from others who have had similar experiences. 'Firefly' (For Information Really Exciting for You) - Young members meet to discuss issues which can be put forward to Doncaster Youth Council.
- Training - Is offered to support and enable independent living. Courses include:
- Moving and handling.
- Disability Discrimination Act Part III and Access Auditing.
- Disability Equality Training.
- Personal Development, confidence building, assertivness.
- Independent Living Skills.
- Information Communication and Technology Suite (ICT) - offering training courses and equipment assessments.
- B.M.E. Project - To support and enable disabled people from black and ethnic minority communities to access services offered by SYCIL, by offering language support, equipment assessment, advocacy, information, and various short courses.
Opening Hours:
Monday to Thursday - 9:00 am to 4:30 pm.
