Aims:
- To improve or restore the functional abilities of patients with cerebral palsy or neurological problems.
- To give children with cerebral palsy the experience of a greater variety of co-ordinated movement patterns.
- To help patients incorporate what they achieved during treatment into daily life.
Activities:
- Provides treatment for individuals according to an assessment of their needs and reassesses this continually.
- Treatment of children in accordance with Bobath principles.
- Training of graduate therapists in the principles and practice of Bobath treatment to promote its wider use.
- Runs training courses on the Bobath approach to treatment.
- Provides an assessment and consultancy service.
- Undertakes research, in conjunction with the University College Hospital London, and the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine into the nature of cerebral palsy and the ways of mitigating its effects.
The Bobath treatment is a holistic interdisciplinary approach involving occupational, physio, speech and language therapists.
