National contact for the Down's Syndrome Association
Aims:
To provide immediate vital support and assistance for new parents of a Down's Syndrome baby and ongoing guidance on a wide range of subjects from early feeding problems to life after school.
Activities:
- Information - The National office provides a helpline which can give advice and guidance on a wide range of subjects from early feeding problems, education and adolescence and life after school. Helpline hours are 10:00 am - 4:00 pm, Monday - Friday.
Personal appointments can be made by telephoning in advance.
- Support - There are Regional Branches and around 100 local groups run by parents. They offer information, advice and support at a local level. Contact the national office for details of local contacts.
- Resources - Resource Centres in London, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Local Groups:
Regional Branches and a network of local groups cover England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Scotland is covered by its own association.
Membership:
Full - open to parents, adults with Down's Syndrome and close family members.
Associate - open to all others.
Membership is free for the first year for parents of children with Down's Syndrome. There is no fixed fees after that but a minimum fee of £4.00 and £15.00 respectively is suggested.
