Description:
Government scheme which gives advice and help on compensation for children injured by immunisation.
Aims:
To offer advice on compensation for children injured by immunisation.
Activities:
People who are severly disabled due to a vaccination against specific diseases may be able to claim a one-off tax-free Vaccine Damage Payment of £100,000.00
To qualify for a Vaccine Damage Payment, the claiment must be at least 60% mentally or physically disabled due to a vaccination against:
- Diptheria.
- Tetanus.
- Pertussis (whooping cough).
- Poliomyelitis.
- Measles.
- Rubella (German measles).
- Mumps.
- Tuberculosis.
- Meningococcal Group C (meningitis C).
- Haemophilus influenzae type B (hib).
- Smallpox (vaccination upto August 1971).
Claiments may have had a combination vaccination against a number of the diseases listed, for example DTP (diptheria, tetanus and pertussis) or MMR (measles, mumps and rubella).
Claiments may also be able to get a payment if they are though to be severely disabled because either:
- Their mother was vaccinated against one of the diseases in the list while she was pregnant.
- They have been in close physical contact with someone who's been vaccinated against poliomyelitis with a vaccine that was given orally.
When claiming on behalf of a child, claiments must wait until they're at least two years old before claiming.
The claim must be made by the later of the following dates:
- The disabled person's 21st birthday (or if they die, the date on which they would have turned 21).
- Within six years of the date the vaccination took place.
