Description:
The primary purpose of the Centre is to disseminate advice and information on the subject of specific learning difficulties/dyslexia as well as gifted children and those suffering from ADHD, Aspergers Syndrome and Dyspraxia.
Activities:
- Distributes books, leaflets and teaching guides.
- Has the services of a full-time consultant educational psychologist who is a specialist in the subject of dyslexia and can carry out independent diagnostic assessments of individuals.
- Has a highly organised step by step programme for teaching reading, spelling and handwriting. The programme can be used in schools and in the home.
- Department for helping left-handed children and adults.
- Has the services of a senior psychiatric social worker who has legal qualifications and is able to advise and help parents in their negotiations with schools and local education authorities.
- A helpline is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
