3 More London Disability Helpline: 0845 604 6610 Description: The EHRC takes on all of the powers of the existing Commissions as well as new powers to enforce legislation more effectively and promote equality for all. It also promotes awareness and understanding of human rights and encourage good practice by public authorities in meeting their Human Rights Act obligations. The Commission covers England, Scotland and Wales. In Scotland and Wales there are statutory committees responsible for the work of EHRC. Mission Statement: It will enforce equality legislation on age, disability, gender, race religion or belief, sexual orientation or transgender status, and encourage compliance with the Human Rights Act 1998. The EHRC will work to bring out effective change, using its influence and authority to ensure that equality and human rights remain at the top of agendas for government, employers and society. It will campaign for social change and justice. The EHRC will act directly and by fostering partnerships at local, regional and national levels. It will stimulate debate on equality and human rights.
