Description:
Previously known as Community Fund.
Gives Lottery money to charities and voluntary community groups.
Big Lottery Fund is responsible for giving out half the money for good causes raised by the National Lottery, giving them a budget of about £630 million a year. Thier funding covers health, education, environment and charitable purposes.

Aims:
To give grants to help meet the needs of those at greatest disadvantage in society and to improve the quality of life in the community.

Activities:
Distributes funds through six grants programmes:

  1. Grants for large projects are for groups whose total project costs more than £60,000.00 (or more than £30,000.00 if it involves property).
  2. Grants for medium-sized projects are for groups whose total project (not just in one year) costs less than £60,000.00, or the total cost of any building construction or refurbishment work is less than £30,000.00 excluding VAT.
  3. Strategic grants programme is for UK-wide or England-wide projects, or for those covering more than one country of the UK or three or more England regions. Grants are made under their Large or Medium grants programmes. There is no limit to the size of the grant you can apply for.
  4. International grants programme for UK-based organisations running development projects abroad.
  5. Research grants programme is for vo;untary organisations who want to get involved in social and medical research.
  6. Awards for All programme gives small grants to small groups.
