Description:
Supporting underfunded charities that support disabled people.
Aims:
Aims to support and work in partnership with charitable organisations which help people, especially those who are disadvantaged or disabled, to play a fuller role in communities throughout England and Wales.
Activities:
The Foundation has two main objectives to which it allocates funds:
- Social and Community Needs.
- Education and training.
The Trustees of the Foundation regularly review changing social needs and will from time to time identify and support specific areas to focus on within their overall aims.
The Foundation continues to have a particular interest in supporting charities working in the three following areas:
- Family Support - the Trustees wish to support the development and strengthening of organisations, programmes and projects which sustain families and improve the qualities of family life.
- Challenging disadvantage and discrimination - the Trustees wish to support activities which address disadvantage and discrimination and encourage people to play a part in the decisions which affect their lives or promotes a wide involvement in the community.
- Helping to make the voluntary sector more effective - the Trustees wish to enhance the capacity of the voluntary sector to work together and share good practice to provide effective services.
The following types of activity are generally eligible for consideration, but this list is not exhaustive and should only be used as aguide:
- Advice services for people in any kind of need.
- Activities which encourage people to participate in and make a positive contribution to life in their community.
- Community centres and activities for disadvantaged or disabled people of any age.
- Services and support for people with disabilities and their carers.
- Services and support for people with physical or mental health needs.
- Activities which encourage disadvantaged or disabled people to participate in cultural activities.
- Lifelong learning.
- Reading and writing skills.
- Pre-school education.
- Promoting skills that people need to live independently.
- Training for disabled people, including training for the workplace.
- Training for disadvantage people, to improve their chances of getting a job.
- Support for charities working with ex-prisoners, with a focus on the needs of ex-prisoners with the emphasis on their families and mental health issues.
Applicants are strongly advised to seek advice from the Foundation before submitting an application for support.
