Provides information & advice about equipment.
Aims:
- To enhance opportunities for people to achieve greater mobility and indepenence and to confront barriers excluding them from doing so.
- To privide advice in a timely and meaningful way.
- to provide information and advice accessible to everyone irrespective of disability, race, ethnic origin, sexual orientation or religious belief.
- To involve disabled people in consultation on all aspects of work and seek ways of meeting identified needs.
- To raise the public profile and awareness of DLF to maintain its position as one of the leading national voluntary organisations in this field.
- To ensure that all staff have the appropriate skills, knowledge and experience necessary for the organisation to provide a high quality information and advice service.
- To work co-operatively with other voluntary, statutory and commercial organisations, in order to maximise resources and avoid wasteful duplication.
Activities:
The DLF is a major source of advice and information about assistive technology and equipment for people with disabilities, older people and their carers.
Information and advice provided on the following areas (list is not exhaustive):
- transport.
- eating and drinking.
- beds, chairs and accessories.
- children's equipment.
- powered and manual wheelchairs, scooters and buggies.
- equipment for positioning, standing and walking
- pressure relief.
- household equipment, household and environmental fittings.
- telephones, alarms, intercoms and communication equipment.
- personal toilet and personal care.
- clothing and footwear.
- hoists, lifts and lifting equipment.
- leisure activities.
- office furniture and equipment.
Other services include:
- Sale of a wide range of publications and other sources of information to the general public and health care professionals.
- Training to meet the needs of health care and social services staff working with people with disabilities and their carers.
- Helpline Mon. to Fri. - 10.00am till 4.00pm.
- An equipment demonstration showroom based in London where visitors can try a range of daily living equipment. Please contact to arrange an appointment.
- "Bathing made easy" - a free, impartial search and comparison website for walk-in baths, bath seats, showers, grab rails and other personal care products for older and disabled people.
