Description:
Advice for students in post 16 education and transition to employment.
Aims:
To promote opportunities for young people and adults with any kind of disability in post 16 education, training and employment across the UK.
Activities:
- Provides a free information and advice service for individual disabled people and the professionals who work with them. This information and advice helps disabled people to overcome financial and physical barriers, ignorance and discrimination so that they can study, train or find work.
- Informs and influences key policy makers to improve legal rights and support for disabled people in post 16 education and training.
- SKILL works together with individual disabled people, professionals working in education, training and careers, employers and disability organisations to influence government.
- Promotes best practice: SKILL membership; running topical conferences and seminars; producing informative and practical publications; providing consultancy and staff training for colleges, universities and other organisations.
- Conducts research and develops projects on education and disability issues to address gaps in provision and to take forward new ideas.
