Aims:
To improve the quality of life of severely or profoundly deaf people by supplying them with dogs trained to alert them to chosen everyday sounds, such as the alarm clock, doorbell, telephone and emergency alarms.
Activities:
- Selecting dogs between six weeks and three years old, predominately from rescue centres or offered as unwanted pets, or donated by breeders.
- Interviewing deaf people who apply for a dog, and if an application is accepted, training a dog for that person's individual requirements.
- Providing support and aftercare service to working partnership between recipient and hearing dog.
- Raising funds to pay for the above training and lifelong aftercare, through nation-wide fund-raising events.
