Eligibility: Welfare Rights Advisers ONLY.
Description:
Promotes action for the relief of poverty among children and families.

Aims:

  • To enable those eligible for benefits to have access to their full entitlement
  • To bring about positive income policy changes for families with children in poverty
  • To raise awareness of the causes and experience of poverty

Activities:

  • Researches and publishes the latest facts and figures on family poverty in the UK.
  • Lobbies Government for policies to prevent and alleviate poverty.
  • Provides up-to-date information and advice on every aspect of the welfare benefits system.
  • CPAG's Citizens Rights Office (CRO) provides a free telephone and letter advice service to welfare rights advisers so that they are better able to advise their clients. Legal specialists in the CRO also take carefully selected individual test cases, which may clarify or challenge the way social security law is interpreted.
  • CPAG, together with LASA now provide a specialist support service in welfare benefits to eligible organisations. The Specialist Support Service will give advisors access to CPAG's renowned expertise and information resources in the field of welfare rights. Please enquire for eligibility.
  • Training courses in welfare rights, for both new and experienced advisers, to help them keep up-to-date with developments in social security.
  • Supports activities and campaigns at a local level through the work of local networks.
