Description:
Disabled Ramblers is a nation-wide organisation, run by disabled people for disabled people, with a special emphasis on rambling in the countryside, on foot, or using wheelchairs, powered pavement scooters and buggies. The organisation is affiliated to both the Ramblers' Association and the Disabled Drivers Association.

Aims:

  • To raise awareness of the need and opportunities for country access locally and nationally, to planners, landowners and to disabled people themselves.
  • To campaign locally and nationally to establish better access, including a 'code of practice', underpinned as necessary by Disability Rights Legislation.
  • To establish information on standards, contracts, accessible places and walk opportunities available and suitable for disabled people.

Activities:

  • Organising disabled rambles, meetings and gatherings around the country, usually incorporating a ramble, to be undertaken with the help of various types of wheelchair and powered pavement vehicles as appropriate.
  • Reviewing existing equipment (including wheelchairs, powerchairs and scooters) able to help disabled people in the countryside and to promote new technology solutions better able to cope with the range of conditions encountered.
  • Promoting better off road pavement vehicle technology, able to manage the rougher going to be found in the countryside.
