CLAPA is the only UK-wide voluntary organisation specifically helping those with, and effected by, cleft lip and palate.
There are more than 35 CLAPA branches (all run by volunteers) and many other regional contacts in the UK, each committed to providing the support needed by families affected by cleft lip and/or palate.
Aims:
To represent the interests of patients and parents, influencing policy on future treatment of cleft lip and palate.
Activities:
- Organises local parent-to-parent support through nation-wide network of branches.
- Runs a specialist service for parents and health professionals seeking help feeding babies with clefts.
- Encourages and supports research into causes and treatment of cleft lip and palate.
- Develops support for children and adolescents affected by clefts at school and in social settings through such activities as confidence-building camps.
- Represents the interests of patients and parents, influencing policy on future treatment of cleft lip and palate.
- Conducts educational seminars for health professionals and the general public.
- Raises funds in the community for specific treatment and equipment.
- Supports projects in countries where cleft treatment is limited or unavailable.
