Description:
Promotes, supports and develops volunteering in England.
Launched on April 1st. 2004, Volunteering England is the new national volunteer development agency for England. Formed through the merger of the National Centre for Volunteering, Volunteer Development England and the Consortium on Opportunities for Volunteering.

Aims:

  • To identify and promote best practice in the involvement of volunteers.
  • To stimulate constructive thinking and practice on volunteering.
  • To raise awareness of the value of volunteering amongst policy makers across all sections.
  • To encourage the adoption of public policies which benefit volunteering.
  • To provide an authoritative body of research knowledge on voluntary issues.
  • To provide a range of products and services which assist volunteer involving organisations.

Activities:

  • Training courses for volunteer co-ordinators.
  • Publications about different aspects of working with volunteers.
  • Free information and advice service for people who have questions about volunteering.
  • Institute for volunteering research investigating trends which will effect/impact on volunteering.
  • Co-ordinates "Volunteers Week" an annual awareness week running from 1st to 7th June every year.
  • Working in partnership with VITA (Volunteering in the Third Age) to run the Campaign Against Age Discrimination in Volunteering.
