Description:
National telephone helpline for people with mental health problems, whether they are service users, carers or concerned relatives and friends. It is open from 12 noon to 2:00 am every day of the year, including Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
All calls are answered by supervised volunteers who undertake a full training programme endorsed by the Royal College of Psychiatrists who have access to an extensive database.
Aims:
To offer advice and support for people with mental health problems, their family, friends and carers.
Activities:
- Operating a national mental health helpline providing information and support for people with mental health problems and those who support them.
- Offers support and reassurance in times of crisis.
- Gives information to enable callers to make informed decisions and puts callers in touch with services in their local area.
- Provides details of medical and psychological treatments.
- Providing information on illnesses and symptoms, local and national mental health services, medication, treatments and therapies.
- Sanemail was launched in 2007 - This new e-mail support service provides vital on-line support to people who may find talking about their mental health problems difficult, or who perhaps cannot use a telephone because of a disability.
