Description:
Support organisation for people with autism & those who care for them.
Aims:
- To help parents, families and people with autism.
- To champion the rights and interests of all people with autism and to ensure that they and their families receive quality services appropriate to their needs.
- To offer people with autism, their families and carers information, advice and support.
- To improve awareness of autism amongst key decision-makers, professionals and the general public.
- To provide training and promote research into autism.
- To develop a range of educational and support services for people with autism.
Activities:
- Runs an advisory and information service for people with autism, parents, carers and professionally interested people.
- Runs a national diagnostic and assessment service.
- Organises a wide range of courses and conferences.
- Owns and manages schools offering day, weekly, termly and fifty-two week placements as well as residential & day services for adults.
- Offers an accreditation scheme for autism specific education care and care programmes.
- Works in partnership with local authorities and other organisations to enable the development of appropriate services.
- Provides in-house and professional training.
- Runs volunteer schemes supporting individuals with autistic spectrum disorders and families, via befriending and parent to parent links.
- Prospects - a support employment scheme for people with Autism & Asperger Syndrome.
Local Groups:
Has around 80 branches UK wide. Affiliated local societies & groups exist in most parts of the UK.

Open to people with autism, parents, carers, professionals and others interested in autism.
