Description:
Support group for people with Parkinson's, and their carers.
Aims:
- To help people with Parkinson's, and their carers, family and friends with the problems arising from Parkinson's disease.
- To collect and disseminate information on Parkinson's disease.
- To encourage and provide funds for research into Parkinson's disease.
Activities:
- Helpline open Monday to Friday between 9:30 am and 5:30 pm excluding Bank Holidays.
- Provides support, advice and information to people with Parkinson's, their carers, families and friends, and to health and social services professionals involved in management and care.
- Campaigns for improved services for those with Parkinson's Disease.
- Provides practical advice on issues such as financial assistance, insurance and employment.
- Spending more than £2 million pounds each year on funding research into the cause, cure and prevention of Parkinson's and improvements in available treatments.
- Develops models of good practice in service provision, such as Parkinson's Disease Nurse Specialists and respite care.
- Helps those with Parkinson's Disease find respite, residential or nursing care.
Local Groups:
There are 330 branches and support groups throughout the country.
Membership:
Available to all people with or interested in Parkinson's Disease. Membership is £4.00 per year in the UK and £15.00 per year overseas.
