Description:
Advising, supporting and empowering dyslexic adults.

Aims:

  • To advise, support and empower dyslexic adults, taking account of the special abilities and disabilities associated with dyslexia.
  • To raise awareness of dyslexia in the worlds of work, education, caring professions and public authorities.

Activities:

  • Helpline, operated principally by dyslexia adults. Provides advice, information and support.
  • Assessment to approved psychologists or appropriately trained teachers.
  • Tuition by qualified tutors.
  • Counselling services.
  • Discussion and support groups.
  • Research projects.
  • Conferences, seminars and training events.
  • Support and assistance is given to people encountering discrimination and in obtaining disability rights.
  • Providing a checklist for people who think they may be dyslexic.
  • Advising on issues relating to employment and education.
  • Providing opportunities for members to explore and discuss their experience of this disability in relation to its effect on the family or on an individual's development.
  • Encouraging public and professional awareness.
  • Liaising with the LEA on matters affecting dyslexics in the UK.
  • Encouraging the expansion of special educational provision for dyslexics.

Membership:
£20.00 - organisations and institutes, £10.00 - individuals, £5.00 - unwaged and students.
