Description:
Support for people with alcohol-related problems.

Aims:

  • To work towards reducing the level of alcohol misuse.
  • To develop the range and quality of services available to people with alcohol-related problems.
  • To reduce the impact of alcohol misuse on individuals, families and society.

Activities:

  • Offering advice and information, and a referral service putting people in touch with their nearest alcohol advice service for individuals, friends or relatives.
  • Workplace advisory service on alcohol policies in work settings.
  • Comprehensive services directory listing help-giving alcohol agencies on a region-by-region basis as well as a library and information service and a team offering support on a range of topics from advice on contracting arrangements to help with funding for health, social services and probation professionals.
  • Acting as the national umbrella body for 500 local agencies tackling alcohol-related harm.
  • Playing a key role in promoting and advising on the development of national alcohol policy and in promoting public awareness of alcohol issues.
  • Acting as the principal source of information on alcohol to the general public, to the press and to professionals in other fields of activity, including government.
  • Supporting the development of policy and practice in specialist areas such as primary care, mental health and the alcohol treatment sector.
