Description:
Encourages the provision of accessible information.
Aims:
- To ensure that disabled people, and any other disadvantaged people who have difficulty in getting information have all the information they need when they need it.
- To raise awareness among service providers of the need to make information available in ways which are appropriate.
- To promote and publicise good practice in providing information.
- To develop training materials on how best to provide accessible information.
Activities:
- Identifying groups of people missing out on vital information, determining their information needs and the reasons why information fails to get through to them; and devising ways to overcome those barriers and meet those needs.
- Raising awareness among policy makers and service providers of the need to make information available in ways appropriate to the user.
- Promoting and publishing good practice in providing information, particularly through the Forum's annual Getting the Message Across Awards for outstanding achievement in the provision of information to disadvantaged people.
- Developing and producing simplified signpost guidance to sources of information and advice, helping people to lead lives of choice.
- Influencing the provision of information to empower people to take control of their own lives, enabling them to fulfil their potential in the community.
Membership:
£15.00 per annum.
