Description:
National organisation working with and for disabled people.

Aims:
To promote change by empowering disabled people to achieve their rights and expectations; and by influencing the way that disabled people are viewed as members of society.

Activities:

  • Campaigns for equal rights for disabled people, in all areas including education,employment and access to public transport, buildings and leisure opportunities.
  • Offers information and advice on all issues related to disability.
  • Take the lead in devising, upbeat and proactive campaigns towards the social inclusion of disabled people.
  • Ensure that disabled people continue to be at the heart of the decision making process at RADAR.
  • Promotes good practice and legislation which enables disabled people to live independently in the community.
  • Voices the wishes and concerns of disabled people.
  • Co-ordinates the "National Key Scheme" for accessible public toilets.
  • Website with mailing list facility, to receive e-mails from the press office.
  • Provides high quality campaigning tools and services to organisations of and for disabled people.
  • Develops networks in the disabled persons' movement to maximise the development of inclusive policy, legislation and regulation.
  • Develops fresh ideas through strategic alliances and partnerships, in support of social inclusion for disabled people.
  • Development and disseminate best practice information about user-centred, user involvement to organisations for disabled people.

Local Groups:
Approximately 500 local groups around the country are affiliated to RADAR.
