Description:
Support organisation for people with learning disabilities.
BILD has a multidisciplinary membership which includes professionals, staff, purchasers and policy makers, researchers and carers in community and residential settings. Parents, families and people with learning disabilities themselves also use BILD services.

Aims:
To be committed to improving the quality of life for people with a learning disability.

Activities:

  • Offers education and training: in-house courses, training needs analysis, and conferences and seminars.
  • Provides information and resources: library and resources centre, information database, books and journals, and a membership network.
  • Research and counsultancy: service evaluation, service development, and applied research projects.
  • Influencing policy makers and other decision makers.
  • Encouraging good practice among practitioners from a wide range of disciplines.
  • Healping people with a learning disability take charge of their own lives and become part of an inclusive society.
  • Policy and research: work with government bodies and others, helping to shape UK policy and strategic thinking, and contributing to a shared vision of better services.
  • User involvement and advocacy: supporting the development of advocacy for people with learning disabilities by supporting local advocacy groups and carrying out reviews and evaluations of advocacy provision.
  • Information and resources: offer a wide range of information and resources on all aspects of learning disability policy and practice.
