Description:
Network of rehabilitation centres for those with brain injuries.
The Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT) is a division of The Disabilities Trust.
Aims:
To provide community-based rehabilitation and support for people with an acquired/traumatic brain injury.
Activities:
- Employing specialists in neuropsychology nursing, speech therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, counselling psychology, behavioural therapy, vocational therapy and consulting psychiatry.
- Providing trained staff in procedures and methods appropriate to the neuro behavioural model of rehabilitation.
- Developing treatments methods which directly address the neurological or neuro-psychological origins of this disorder.
- Rehabilitation centres, sheltered housing, transitional living units and long-term care centres within England.
