Description:
Supporting learning disabled people who have experienced crime or abuse.

Aims:

To give those that have been abused, their families and friends, a chance to speak out about what has happened to them, to be listened to, believed and supported through to recovery.
To offer help and guidance to adults with learning disabilities who have been abused, their families, friends and advocates.
To campaign to ensure justice in courts for those who have been abused.
To ensure members of the legal profession are aware of the potential of people with learning disabilities.
To press for changes in courtroom procedure to make the legal system more accessible for people with learning disabilities.
To campaign to enable and require employers to screen effectively all staff recruited into care posts for evidence of past abuse.
To promote an awareness of the reality of sexual abuse of this vulnerable group and how to respond appropriately.
To promote specialist training of staff, users and families in matters relating to sexuality and sexual abuse.
To work with and through other agencies to promote best practice in the treatment and rehabilitation of those that have been abused.
To act as an advocate, where appropriate, for those who have been abused.

Activities:

Support for people with learning disabilities who have been abused and their families.
Campaigning for changes in the law and practices.
PCP's - Parent Contact Points - Parents whose own son or daughter has been abused, who now with training help other parents.

Membership:
£8.00 - unwaged.
£20.00 - individual/family.
£50.00 - professionals.
£250.00 - corporate.
