Description:
The B.C.A. is an organisation which is dedicated to the support and encouragement of blind and partially sighted chess players.

Aims:

  • The association aims to bring blind and partially sighted chess players together to compete with one another in tournaments organised by them, and the IBCA.
  • The association also ims to give the opportunity to their members to play in international events and thereby, mett other chess players from different countries.
  • They aim to include all sorts of chess players, ranging from the strong to the weak, and all are welcome, where they give support to all by various media, including personal coaching, books, articles and theory on tape, braille and computer format.
  • Their aim is not only to organise events for visually handicapped players, but to give them the self-confidence to join local clubs and enter tournaments not confined to the visually handicapped.

Activities:

  • The select tournament venues that are easy to navigate, close to public transport and suitable for guide dogs.
  • They hold correspondence tournaments (including by e-mail) for people unable or unwilling to play otb.
  • They offer coaching to players of all levels including complete beginners.
  • As well as chess they offer visits to places of interest and other entertainment to help members get to know each other. Guides/communicators are welcome to all these events.
  • Any deaf-blind person is eligible to join the B.C.A. by virtue of their visual handicap (which does not have to be total). You are the best people to tell them how to help you.

Membership:

  • Half year (1st April - 1st Sept) - £3.50
  • 1 year (1st Sept. - 1st Sept.) - £7.00
  • Life membership - £70.00
  • Under 25 years of age - Free.

With the membership you will receive:

  • All literature that is sent out by the B.C.A.
  • The possibility to play in their events.
  • Available subsidies to B.C.A. events.
  • The B.C.A. gazette.
  • The possibility to represent the B.C.A. in events home and abroad.
